With the Spring session and the continuously improving pandemic situation, we are making masks optional for all classes except our Tiny Tiger program. This program, for our littlest students who can't yet get vaccinatted, will continue to enforce the mask requirement for those who can wear them.
The Winter session will continue our safe practices and cleanliness procedures. All teachers, students, and visitors must be masked. Spectators will be limited to no more than one per family. Our class sizes will continue to be limited, and the curriculum will continue to limit close contact when possible.
To be cautious we are continuing to limit class sizes and contact between students. We are also mandating that all students, who are able, wear a mask. Spectators will be limited to no more than one per family.
Due to demand, we will re-open on a limited basis with adjusted curriculum. We will be operating under CDC guidelines or stricter, and all students and parents will be required to follow our rules. To help keep our Tai Shin Doh family safe, only half our classes will be offered. Days when classes are held will be changed to allow days for cleaning in between. Class sizes will be kept small, and everyone must wear a mask. Our Tiny Tigers can alternatively wear a face shield. Class curriculum will also be altered during the pandemic to limit contact between students, and all class durations will be limited to an hour. Only one individual parent or guest may come with a student to class, and only limited seating will be available in the class on a first come basis.
As the state is releasing more and more guidelines on how to reopen the state, and they have now provided guidelines that we can follow, we are formulating a plan on how we can reopen and keep everyone safe as well as a Summer session calendar. We do plan on initially holding non-contact classes rather than our usual, very self-defense oriented full-contact ones. Please feel free to reach out to us with any concerns, and we'll try to address them. Keep an eye on this website, our Facebook page, and your email box for upcoming announcements. As of now, we hope to hold our first classes back in the dojo sometime in June, to begin the Summer session. Stay safe!
As the governer begins to open the state and gyms, fitness centers, and non-contact sports get plans, martial arts schools have not yet been addressed. We are continuing to watch for guidelines and how we can safely hold classes. Our students and their families safety is our top priority. We hope to be able to begin holding non-contact classes this Summer. Please keep an eye on this website and continue following our Facebook page.
Please follow our "Beachwood Tai Shin Doh Academy" Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/beachwoodtsd/. We will be posting regularly concepts, tips, and words of the day. Students should record these in their notebooks. They will count as points towards their next belt test.
It warms my heart that there are students who want to continue to learn even through these times when we can't be in the dojo. I invite any student to have their kata or a self-defense technique recorded and sent to me for review and feedback.
Our first priority is always the health and safety of our students and their families. We have not heard of any of our students nor their families being directly exposed to the Corona Virus, but we will continue to monitor the situation and wish everyone good health. To be cautious and due to all the school, organization, and event closures and cancelations in our area, we are suspending all our classes for the time being. If the situation allows, we hope to resume classes in April.
Please remember to follow good hygiene and personal distancing. Keep an eye on this website, our Facebook page, and look out for emails from us for information on when classes will resume.
I encourage all our students to practice their katas, and review self-defense techniques, stances, strikes, and kicks with your parents or others if possible. Review your testing sheets and continue training so we can have belt testing within a few weeks of returning. If you have any questions or need a belt testing sheet, please contact us.
Dear Beachwood Academy Families
With the news that three Cuyahoga County adult residents have been tested positive for the Covid-19 virus, we are keeping a close eye on announcements from both the CDC and Cuyahoga County Board of Health as well as the announcements and actions of the Beachwood Public School system. If the Beachwood Public Schools should close or the Cuyahoga County Board of Health recommends that all schools close, we will also close. Until that point, we recommend that if you or your child exhibit ANY cold symptoms, or you or your child came into contact with anyone tested positive with the Corona Virus, please stay home. If someone should come to class exhibiting any symptom, they will be asked to leave.
In an attempt to still hold classes, and keep the chances of spreading disease minimal, we will have hand sanitizer available at the door to the dojo. Please be sure to use it upon entry. We also will be focusing more on bag work, line drills, and kata rather than self-defense for the short-term.
As this is a fluid situation, these steps could change at any moment. Please keep an eye on our Facebook page or this website for any updates.
