Allen Roth is a 10th degree black belt Grandmaster and recognized as Soke (Head of Family) of Tai Shin Doh and Tai Shin Jitsu. Despite being able to be called by many titles, he prefers the simple "Sensei." For him, it's not about the titles or accolades, it's all about the students.
Allen started his study of the martial arts in 1973 in the style of Taekwon Do with Sa Bum Nim Ray Szuch, at age 9. During this early part of his martial arts career, he made the rounds of the regional tournament circuit and earned a spot to compete in the National AAU Martial Arts Tournament in Washington DC, for both Kata and Kumitae on the same team as Tai Bo creator Billy Blanks. After achieving this goal, Allen diversified his training by studying Gushin Kun Doh with Master Mickey Kramer, and Krav Maga from Rick Blitstein, one of the first group of instructors in the U.S. During his college years, he was also part of The Ohio State University Shai Chao Kung Fu club studying under Master Danny Weng.
While pursuing his career that took him to different parts of the country, he would pop in and out of dojos to keep his skills up. After this absence from consistent formal Martial Arts training to pursue his career and a family, Allen returned with his son in 1999 to study Tai Shin Doh, and Tai Shin Jitsu with Soke Ron Balas, once again putting on a white belt to show respect, humility, and learn the style from the ground up.
